Unit 1. A Different Canada
Unit 1 looks at Canadian society before World War I, and the attitudes and expectations Canadians had for the future. We will be covering the following:
- common attitudes about social behaviour in the early 1900s
- women's voting rights
- Canada's relationship to Britain at the turn of the century
- attitudes that many Canadians had towards Aboriginal people and non-Europeans
- English- and French-speaking Canadians' relationships
- technological developments during this period
- the impact of industrial development on the natural environment
Assessment
Students will work in groups to prepare presentations on assigned readings.
